Position Purpose

The Prevention Specialist/PrEP Navigator will make referrals and provide PrEP consultations, implement a text message retention/reminder program for PrEP clients, promote PrEP services through outreach, marketing and social media, distribute and provide follow-up for HIV home test kits, recruit and direct “PrEP Peer” volunteers, and all other duties as assigned. These services will predominantly focus on gay and bisexual men but will also include work with Persons Who Inject Drugs (PWID), substance users, and Transgender people.

Scope of Responsibilities

Vivent Health is one of the nation’s largest providers of HIV prevention, care and treatment services with a budget approaching $150 million and employing over 450 professionals.

The unique, nationally recognized Vivent Health HIV Medical home model of care assures that everyone with HIV has access to medical, dental, mental health and social services and provides the best opportunity for patients to achieve high quality health outcomes. Vivent Health also provides aggressive HIV prevention services to gay men, injection drug users and others at the highest risk for HIV infection.

Vivent Health currently operates in multiple states nationwide. It embraces a Market Culture to increase access to care, enhance quality outcomes, achieve and surpass financial performance expectations and has an aggressive plan to expand into additional states.

Essential Functions

  • Under direct supervision of the program coordinator, perform programmatic duties such as making PrEP referrals, PrEP consultations, and follow-ups
  • Recruit and direct the work of “PrEP Peer” volunteers
  • Assist in administering a text message retention/reminder program for PrEP clients
  • Distribute and provide follow-up for HIV home test kits
  • Assist in increasing community awareness through outreach, marketing and social media
  • Participation in local festivals and public events such as Pride St. Louis, Tower Grove Pride, Grove Fest, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Experience and Skills

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to HIV/STIs, PrEP, and sexual health
  • Experience working with the communities of focus
  • Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision, thoroughness, and efficiency
  • Dependability and punctuality in work assignments
  • Valid Missouri Driver’s License and insurable driving record
  • Access to a reliable, insured vehicle
  • Pre-employment COVID-19 vaccination, flu shot, and TB test
  • Basic computer competency including Windows OS and MS Office suite
  • Ability to learn and utilize various systems for data management
  • Comfort working with clients with diverse racial, sexual, and gender identities
  • Willingness to work frequent evenings and weekends


Additional Preferred Qualifications


  • Associates degree (or higher) in social work, public health, human services or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working in the HIV field, health education, or health promotion
  • Familiarity with the St. Louis region and its neighborhoods and communities
  • Personal experience consistent with that of the service recipients (especially African American and white gay and bisexual men)
