Perform the engineering, configuration, installation, maintenance/support, and upgrade of networks, including servers, routers, switches, remote access systems, and network management systems. Provide technical support to various departments and users with regards to LAN/WAN.  Serves as a liaison with vendors and other third-party providers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.

  1. Researches, evaluates, and recommends networking hardware and software such as servers, routers, switches, firewalls, security appliances, storage, remote access systems, and network management systems.
  2. Designs, configures, or upgrades local/wide area networks (LAN/MAN/WAN).
  3. Installs network/system and performs analysis on network/system applications.
  4. Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves connection, reliability, or performance issues.
  5. Validates configuration changes on network behavior and performance prior to deployment.
  6. Implementation activities within the network infrastructure. Design activities may also be required.
  7. Executes project work plans related to network, server and enterprise disk environment; tracks progress and meets project deadlines.
  8. Assists in support and maintenance of enterprise hardware environment.
  9. Ensures software and hardware are compatible with existing network and systems.
  10. Assists in developing and enforcing security policies and procedures.
  11. Performs maintenance on network hardware and servers.
  12. Evaluates and recommends new products and services.
  13. Participates and performs in capacity planning and network monitoring as required.
  14. Understands backup and recovery practices
  15. Participates in Disaster Recovery processes.
  16. Ensures that proper system security procedures are in place.
  17. Completes tasks that meet budget, time frame and quality requirements.


Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university is preferred; Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school a minimum.  Must have five or more years information systems experience, including two years of experience directly with networking technologies.  Must have a full knowledge of networking principles and LAN\WAN technologies.  Must have good organizational skills and attention to detail.  Works independently with minimal supervision.
