Position Purpose

The Director of Behavioral Health and Wellness is a senior leader responsible for the development and operations of behavioral health and wellness services.  This position includes the direct provision of services to patients, oversight of departmental staff, and the development of collaborations to extend behavioral health services for people with HIV/AIDS.  The Director ensures the delivery of high quality behavioral health services consistent with professional standards and ensures excellent patient services. This position serves patients and clients and reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.

Scope of Responsibilities

Vivent Health is one of the nation’s largest providers of HIV prevention, care and treatment services with a budget approaching $130 million and employing over 400 professionals. 

The unique, nationally recognized Vivent Health HIV Medical Home model of care assures that everyone with HIV has access to medical, dental, mental health and social services and provides the best opportunity for patients to achieve high quality health outcomes. Vivent Health also provides aggressive HIV prevention services to gay men, injection drug users and others at the highest risk for HIV infection. 

Vivent Health currently operates in multiple states nationwide. It embraces a Market Culture to increase access to care, enhance quality outcomes and achieve and surpass financial performance expectations and has an aggressive plan to expand into additional states.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide direction and oversight, including evaluation, for the operation of Behavioral Health and Wellness services. Adhere to and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local government laws and regulations. Comply with Health Care Corporate Compliance Standards of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Assure compliance with all service delivery standards, strategic plan and agency mission.
  2. Provide direct behavioral health and wellness services to patients and administer the on call and after-hours care program, as needed.
  3. Assure that the Behavioral Health and Wellness Clinic operates consistent with best practice standards for the delivery and quality of care including provider productivity, patient satisfaction and operational excellence.  This includes the implementation and management of a quality clinical supervision program that is patient-centered and focuses on the evolution of behavioral health practice and supports the professional development needs of those affiliated with and working in the clinic.  This also includes assessing and responding to levels of therapeutic competence, continued readiness for practice, and professional impairment while undertaking the disciplinary process when necessary.
  4. Supervise Behavioral Health and Wellness staff in the delivery of high quality services and excellence in patient relations.  Maintain a file review and record keeping program to assist and support Clinic staff with the maintenance of high standards ensuring clinical quality and record compliance.
  5. Provide leadership and develop collaborations with OCHIN and/or EPIC, community healthcare partners, and community institutions such as colleges and universities. Build supportive professional relationships with community HIV/AIDS behavioral health providers that provide services to our patients and clients.
  6. Implement, and oversee pertinent behavioral health and wellness grants.
  7. Collaborate with other departments and build an integrated system of care and support for patients and clients.
  8. Prepare and manage the behavioral health budget assuring that reimbursement revenue is maximized.
  9. Keep abreast of changing developments in the treatment of HIV, mental health, and substance use conditions, and provide or coordinate for continuing education, training and in-services when appropriate to staff, students, and others. 
  10. In conjunction with Director of Quality, assume responsibility for behavioral health and wellness metrics on the Annual Plan. Participate on the Quality Workgroup.  
  11. All other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Operations.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Master's decree or higher in counseling, social work, or related field
  • Licensed to provide mental health services (LMFT, LPC, LCSW)
  • Thorough knowledge of behavioral health (AODA, mental health, and psychiatry) practice standards
  • Minimum of two years providing behavioral services post-license
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the HIV/AIDS patient population, and/or an eagerness to learn about this community.
  • Ability to work with a diverse patient population.
  • An Influenza vaccine is required of all new employees at the time of employment, and is required thereafter on an annual basis.
  • A tuberculin/TB skin test is required of all new employees at the time of employment, and may be required thereafter on an annual basis, depending on position.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience providing behavioral health services to persons living with HIV/AIDS
  • Experience providing behavioral health services to persons from communities significantly impacted by HIV (e.g., LGBTQ persons, African Americans, Latinx)
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary,medical environment
  • Administrative and/or program coordination experience, including budget management

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Staff supervision and/or clinical supervision experience
  • Strong skills in critical thinking, organization, and customer service
  • Ability to be flexible in hours
