Position Purpose

The individual in this Food Pantry Assistant position will provide hands-on assistance with various aspects of pantry operations, including food acquisition, transport, delivery, inventory, and data keeping.

Vivent Health operates food pantries throughout Wisconsin, and in Denver, CO, St. Louis, MO, and Austin, TX. to provide nutritional support to individuals and families impacted by HIV disease and to improve clients’ understanding of the role of nutrition in overall health maintenance.  This position supports day-to-day operations of pantry activities.



Scope of Responsibilities

Vivent Health currently operates in multiple states nationwide. It embraces a Market Culture to increase access to care, enhance quality outcomes, achieve and surpass financial performance expectations and has an aggressive plan to expand into additional states. 

Essential Functions

  • Stage and assist with daily food distribution operation in the Denver Pantry which includes acquisition of food, unloading and storage of food items, food box preparation and general clean-up of pantry environs.
  • Under the Supervision of the Director of Social Services, manage inventory needs, load and deliver food orders to various locations throughout the Denver Metro Area. Communicate delivery times with the primary supportive staff accepting the delivery no less than 48 hours in advance.
  • Assist with transfer of food products to and from Food Bank of the Rockies warehouse, donation centers and partner agencies, and maintain accurate inventory of donated product. Ensure that all food is handled and transported using food safety guidelines.
  • Inspect pantry for safe and proper food storage, orderliness and cleanliness. Document and report any safety, sanitation or quality issues and/or defects. Provide education to supportive pantry staff surrounding identified issues. Provide input and feedback in the resolution of any issues.
  • Participate in the distribution of food to Vivent Health clients. Engage clients in access and retention to care discussion and assist clients out of care in establishing a connection with the Vivent Health clinic or a referral to the provider of their choice.
  • Participate in the home delivery of pantry to homebound clients. Monitor delivery lists for accuracy and report any changes in Provide Enterprise, to pantry staff and delivery volunteers.
  • Provide clients with a reminder call as needed and communicate any changes in delivery times same day.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services rendered to clients in the client electronic database and paper records.
  • Discover and share recipes for items routinely distributed from the pantry or items distributed in bulk. Research and share information with clients on menu planning, low cost meal ideas and meals tailored to special dietary needs.
  • Refresh materials routinely to create point of interest for clients. Share applicable resources to statewide staff supporting pantry operations.
  • Monitor inventory of available product and throughout the day for out of stock items.
  • Assist with training of volunteers on daily food operations, as directed by Director of Social Services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, vendors, and agency staff that will increase customer satisfaction and improve service provision, aid in food acquisition, and provide avenues for collaboration.
  • Operate vehicles and agency equipment in compliance with all safety protocols and precautions, and assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance as directed.
  • Attend Social Services and/or agency staff meetings, in-services, retreats and training opportunities as appropriate.
  • Implement special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Social Services.


 

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required, Associate Degree or higher education preferred
  • Past employment experience in food distribution, warehouse, sales, or customer service
  • Valid driver's license and reliable insured vehicle, required
  • Has an insurable driving record
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, orientation to detail and ability to work independently
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and on occasion lift up to 30 pounds of food items for distribution to clients through Pantry operations.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the HIV/AIDS patient population, and/or an eagerness to learn about this community.
  • Extensive knowledge of HIV disease and related issues, disease progression, and treatment options.
  • An Influenza vaccine is required of all new employees at the time of employment, and is required thereafter on an annual basis.
  • A tuberculin/TB skin test is required of all new employees at the time of employment, and may be required thereafter on an annual basis, depending on position.
